Build a Crisis Communications Team

• Key Roles:  Depending upon the size and complexity of an institution, the key roles identified here may may be the responsibilities of multiple persons or one individual.  These roles include:

  • crisis communications manager

  • institution spokesperson

  • public relations officer

  • social media manager.

The Crisis Communications Team should have access to institutional legal counsel, institution leadership, and emergency manager/crisis team leader.  These individuals can provide up to date information, context, and advice on content of messages.
