Other Plans
Other plans support the basic Emergency Operations Plan (EOP). Each plan focuses on a particular function or type of emergency and provides specific guidance on executing critical functions during an emergency. Such plans may become a "Functional Annex" to the Emergency Operations Plan.
Additional plans commonly utilized in crises affecting colleges and universities include:
Multi Hazard Mitigation Plan
A comprehensive plan designed to identify potential hazards that likely to impact a campus, assess associated risks, and outline strategies to reduce or eliminate those risks.
Weather Hazard Plan
Institutions vulnerable to extreme weather conditions such as hurricanes, tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, floods, bizzards, ice stroms, extreme temperatures, and other climate impacts should have strategies and procedures to prepare for, respond to, and recover from severe weather events outlined in a Weather Hazard Plan.
Violence Prevention Plan
A plan that incorporates multiple levels of prevention, intervention, education, and response strategies to campus violence. Threat assessment and behavioral Intervention (described below) is a component of the Violence Prevention Plan.
Crisis Communications Plan
A strategic framework for an institution to communicate effectively in the event of a crisis. An effective plan is crucial for maintaining credibility, providing timely and accurate information, and protecting the organization’s reputation during and after a crisis. See the Crisis Communications Plan page for more information.
Business Continuity/Continuity of Operations Plan
A Business Continuity Plan (BCP) outlines processes and procedures that ensure an organization can continue critical functions during and after a disruption. The focus is on finanical continuity, IT continuity, availability of key resources, and alternative work arrangements.
Threat Assessment/Behavioral Intervention Plan
A systematic process used to evaluate and address potential risks posed by individuals or situations that may lead to harm to individuals or the campus. It is a proactive and preventive approach that involves gathering, analyzing, and responding to information to mitigate threats before they escalate into violence or crisis situations.
